Gareth Crowe Trampled and Gored by an Elephant on a Koh Samui Trek, 2016
On the afternoon of February 1, 2016, Gareth Crowe, a 36 year old merchant diver from Linwood, Renfrewshire, Scotland, died during an elephant trek at Island Safari park in Bophut, Koh Samui, Thailand. Golf, a 13 year old bull elephant, threw Crowe and his 16 year old stepdaughter from its back after the handler got down to take their photograph. The elephant then trampled Crowe and pierced his chest with a tusk, killing him at the scene. His stepdaughter suffered minor injuries. Police said Crowe had a prosthetic leg and was unable to run. Days later, the 37 year old Myanmar national mahout was charged with negligence causing death, partly based on photographs recovered from Crowe's own camera. Elephant rides were halted by the park for about two weeks, then resumed. Animal welfare campaigners and Thai livestock officials disagreed over whether the elephant was in musth, and the outcome of the case against the mahout has not been reported.  ·  ·  ·  ·  ·  ·  · |

Ha ha ha, I noticed those "bug eyes" too. I am wondering if the eyes bulged out from being squished by Mr. Elephant or if they bulged out when the poor bloke saw Mr. Elephant's big foot about to squish him like a bug?
