Former Civil Defense Secretary Kills Ex-wife and Self
Well-known former municipal Defense Secretary murdered his ex-wife with gunshots to the chest, then turned the gun on himself earlier today. The incident occurred outside of a mutual friend's home after a loud argument, ostensibly motivated by jealousy. While unsubstantiated, several commentors on various forums opined that the guy was a crook anyway and used his law enforcement position to enrich himself at the expense of criminals and citizens alike. His final public correspondence was the following message on a dating site, left the day before the murder-suicide: "I strive to be better every day, Even when everything seems to collapse, it is up to me to decide between laughing or crying, going or staying, giving up or fighting; because I discovered, in the uncertain path of life, that the most important thing is to decide."  ·  ·  ·  ·  ·  ·  ·  ·  · |

My guess is that he was standing over her corpse when he put a bullet in his brain. He dropped the gun and lost a shoe in the process of falling over backwards. The key could have been in his hand, her hand, or her purse.
