Re: The Forest Where People Commit Suicide

Japanese are suicidal because suicide is seen as an act of honor. Many Asian cultures see suicide as honorable versus the shame of dishonoring the family such as by job loss or perceived failure. Children are taught to suceed for their families not for personal or individual merit. If they do not succeed they dishonor their family which is worse than death. This is in direct contrast to the US where suicide is frowned upon and where success or failure falls on the individual. In some Asian cultures it was considered more acceptable for females to kill themselves than divorce. Although Japan has taken many steps to prevent these suicides, old beliefs are difficult to change. These people who have committed suicide in this forrest were more than likely those who thought they dishonored their families in some way versus the lonely or attention seeking suicides in the US.
Destination Truth caught this really spooky black shadow that emerged from the ground. I found they always seemed to catch some of the best evidence and was sad it got canceled.
I read that most suicides in Japan occur at the end of the fiscal year, when the financial quarters are at an end. I think its around early fall, lol just saying that's when their suicides spike.

Depending on what source you go by, Japan ranks 7th in rate of suicides in the world.

Re: The Forest Where People Commit Suicide

In Japan, a student's fate is basically sealed by a group of exams taken during the equivalent of the senior year of high school. If you score high enough on them, you can go to college. Score lower, and you get vocational school or less. A fair number of Japanese students end up committing suicide because they got a low score on the tests and can do nothing to change the course that has been laid out for them.
