Fogel Family Massacre in Itamar, West Bank, March 11, 2011
Five members of the Fogel family were stabbed to death in their home in the Israeli settlement of Itamar in the West Bank on March 11, 2011. The victims were Ehud "Udi" Fogel, 36; his wife, Ruth Fogel, 35; and their children Yoav, 11, Elad, 4, and Hadas, 3 months. Three other children in the house survived. Their 12-year-old daughter, Tamar Fogel, returned home and discovered the scene. The victims were buried in Jerusalem on March 13. Hakim Awad, 18, and his cousin Amjad Awad, 19, both from the nearby Palestinian village of Awarta, were arrested in April 2011 and indicted on five murder counts. Hakim Awad was convicted on August 2 and later sentenced to five consecutive life terms plus five years. Amjad Awad pleaded guilty on October 4 and received five consecutive life terms plus seven years.
