A Malaysian tourist behind the wheel of a car lost control during the afternoon of August 13, 2019, on the Asia Highway at Tambon Khuha Tai in Rattaphum district, Songkhla province, Thailand, roughly 40 kilometers from Hat Yai. The vehicle left the roadway and hit a six-man highway-department crew that was mowing grass beside it. Five workers were killed at the scene, and the sixth sustained severe injuries. The motorist did not have a valid licence and faced a charge of reckless driving causing death. Two Malaysian passengers traveling in the vehicle survived.

The fatalities had previously been misidentified as Malaysian females. They were five Thai men, while the Malaysian woman was driving. Reachable reports do not specify the make of the vehicle described as a K-car; that label appears to loosely render the Thai term for a saloon car. Accounts disagree about the date, with August 13 given in one and Tuesday, August 14 in another. August 13, 2019 was the Tuesday, so that date is used. Neither the driver's name nor those of the victims have been verified through independent sources, and they remain unpublished.
