Five prisoners were killed during the riots that vandalized penitentiaries in the Metropolitan Region of Fortaleza. Two of them have not yet been identified.

The Shock Battalion confirmed on Monday morning (23), the escape of some detainees during the night, but could not say how many. Correctional officers speak about 50 fugitives.


The confusion began on Saturday (21), when prison guards went on strike. Prisoners rebelled in five prisons in the metropolitan region. There was riot and prisoners burned mattresses and chairs.

Two inmates were killed on Saturday (21) in one of four units. Another three were killed on Sunday.

Prison officials ended the strike after an agreement with the State Government. The Department of Justice of Ceará will also calculate the damage caused by the riots, but described the situation as irreparable damage.
