Five Killed in Karabulak Security Raid, Ingushetia, June 11, 2008
Five people were killed during a Russian security operation at a house in Karabulak, Ingushetia, early on June 11, 2008. Security forces sealed a residential block at about 5 a.m. and assaulted the house. Officials said five terrorists offered armed resistance and that security forces recovered three AKM rifles, a Kalashnikov machine gun and Stechkin and Makarov pistols. The Memorial Human Rights Center identified those killed as Lidiya Besultanovna Albakova, born in 1954; her son, Adam Isayevich Khadzhayev, born in 1982; Musa Khasanovich Pugoyev, born in 1983; Movled Khadzhibikarovich Merzhoev, born in 1983; and Mukharbek Salingiriyevich Aushev, born in 1976. Memorial said Albakova was a retired Russian and English teacher and reported that neighbors doubted she or her son belonged to an armed group. The three other men had arrived the previous evening and stayed overnight. Some photographs show charred bodies in the burned house, while others show armed men in tactical gear lying outdoors. |
