Pensioner, approx. 60+ age went fishing near a pond in the city, slipped and fell in the water and couldn't get out of his own and drowned.

Damn. For the 30 seconds that you ARE struggling, it's probably a painful and agonizing experience. Not as bad as being buried alive though, as that's generally a far longer process.

I remember seeing one of those "wilderness horror" films with Liam Neeson (the guy from Taken). His jet crashed, I believe, and one of his friends broke his legs and fell into a shallow frozen pond. The surface was right there and he couldn't get up, because he was practically immobilized.
Now I'm a fairly strong swimmer, I love to boat and fish on occasion, but drowning (unless intoxicated) should be a pretty painful way to go.
