Source: Pattaya Daily News A pick-up truck which was being driven at high speed by a 20 year old male mounted the footpath outside Pattaya floating market instantly killing a Chinese tour guide and injuring 2 others and damaging 2 tour buses and a car. PATTATA – March 13, 2014 [PDN]; at 4.00 p.m.; Pol.Lt.Col. Attharos Khrongrach (Investigation officer of Pattaya city police station, Dong Tarn Curve sub-branch, Chonburi Province) was notified that there had been a traffic accident where a car had collided which with some pedestrian’s killing 1 instantly. The incident occurred on the Sukhumvit road, at the entrance route to Sattahip, in front of the 4-Region Floating Market, Moo 12 Tambon Nong Prue, Amphur Banglamung, Chonburi Province, so the police team rushed to inspect the scene together with the rescuers of Sawang Boriboon Tharmma Satharn Foundation, Pattaya city. At the incident on the footpath there was a silver bronze Isuzu Dmax pick-up truck, with no number plate which was loaded with boxes of soda water. It had hit the back of a white tourist shuttle bus brand Sun Long, license number 32-4368 Bangkok, which belonged to R.G. Transport Co., Ltd. that was parked besides the footpath. Also there were many broken glass bottles of soda water dispersed all over the road. The pick-up driver was identified as Mr. Phattharaphong Kanphai, aged 20 who was slightly injured so the rescuers sent him to Bangkok-Pattaya hospital. Nearby was the corpse of Miss Liu Miao Ya, aged 25, Chinese nationality, who was a tour guide for Lucky Guy Express Co., Ltd. laying on the side of the road beside the tour bus. She had sustained broken arms and legs and there were many scratches and wounds on her body. Also there were 2 injured victims which were identified as Mr. Phakhawat Phoomphuang, aged 17, who was a passenger in the pick-up he had pieces of glass in his eyes and a Mr. Damrong Haekrathok, aged 31, who was a volunteer traffic officer of Pattaya city police station. His left leg was slightly injured but both of them didn’t want to go to hospital. Nearby was a navy blue tour bus, license number 30-2363 Chiang Mai, which belonged to K.K. Kit Roong Rueang Tour Co., Ltd. which was carrying a group of teachers and university students from Chiang Mai Rajabhat University that was parked on the side of the road and had sustained damage from the pick-up to its front and back doors on the left side, also a grey-bronze Chef Rolet Oftra car, license number Kor Jor 1868 Chaiyaphum, was slightly damaged. Upon questioning Mr. Damrong Haekrathok he told police that before incident occurred he saw the pick-up travelling at high speed from Pattaya city in the direction to Amphur Sattahip but suddenly it lost control and mounted the footpath scraped passed his leg injuring him slightly then it hit the doors of the tour bus of teachers and university students then hit a tourists car before colliding with Miss Liu killing her instantly. Mr. Phakkhawat Phoomphuang who was sat in the pick-up truck said that Mr. Phattharaphong (the pick-up truck driver) is the son of Chomphu Merchandise and Mr. Phakkhawat is an employee of this shop. Before the accident occurred Mr. Phattharaphong and Mr. Phakkhawat were delivering s goods to customer in Pattaya, but Mr. Phattharaphong dozed off while driving due to the pain killers he was taking which may of caused the fatal accident. After initial investigation the officers took photographs for evidence and sent the corpse of Miss Liu Miao Ya to Banglamung hospital in order to wait for her relatives to pick up the corpse. Also they sequestered Mr. Phattharaphong (the pick-up truck driver) to be prosecuted further according to the Thai law. Pictures: ID-card of the victim & the driver |
