i'll bet these kinds of things are far more common than we know... many people in these types of countries (ie brasil, india) do their own wiring and electrical routing to their own homes. poor kid

You are exactly right, I've seen some stuff that scared me to death before.

Another sad thing is that this family actually had power and running water, many in the world don't !

If you are posting here on DR you most likely have it much better than a lot of people in the world
