Re: Fatal Gyrocopter Accident

If an advanced alien species ever comes to Earth on a paleontology exploratory mission... and they find those bones... they're gonna scratch their heads and wonder what DA FUQ happened to those scrambled fucks—and I bet they're going to try like hell to reassemble those twisted motherfuckers.

Re: Fatal Gyrocopter Accident

Bensen Gyrocopters were a big craze back in the 1950's and 1960's, especially after they used one in the James Bond film series.
But Bensen's have several engineering flaws, and have to be flown within VERY strict limits.
I worked with a guy who was once flying his Bensen gyrocopter with some friends in California. They used to meet once a month at a restaurant out near Death Valley. They would land on the highway, and taxi right into the parking lot to park. Once Saturday he watched 2 of his friends each crash their Bensen gyrocopters as they were departing from the restaurant that day. He flew home and never flew his gyro again.
But there are many newer designs that are much more dependable, and far better behaved.
About 20 years back, I used to wave to a guy who flew his along the dry river that runs behind my house every weekend. Then one Monday I read in the paper where he hooked telephone lines about 1/2 mile from my house, where they crossed the wash, and got killed. There was a picture of him and the wreckage, lying under the wires, covered by a blanket. That was a Bensen gyro as well, but it was his flying that killed him. There isn't much to them, just a rotor mast, and a beam to mount a seat on, with 3 wheels for landing, and an engine stuck on the back. Maybe 300 lbs. total weight of the machine. If you Google them, they make interesting reading.
