Fatal Car and Fuel Tanker Collision in Northern Chile
A cabover fuel-tanker semi-truck and a light pickup or SUV collided on a two-lane desert highway in northern Chile, probably in the Antofagasta Region. At least one person died. The smaller vehicle was destroyed, with its front end torn away and a body left inside the crushed cabin. The tanker tractor also sustained severe frontal damage. The surrounding terrain was barren, rocky and without visible vegetation. Firefighters attended the wreck, and emergency crews cordoned off the scene. The available evidence does not establish the date, exact road, nearest city, total number of occupants or final death toll. It also does not establish how the vehicles came together, which vehicle crossed the center line, or whether any mechanical or road condition contributed to the crash. No fault was assigned. |
