Re: Farmers Crushed to Death While Cleaning a Combine Harvester
That looks like a crush-injury on the support truck. There are MANY ways to die with a combine harvester, but none of them I've ever seen/heard-of have a vertical-crush potential like that. Most combine-involved deaths are rotary-intanglement deaths, just like with tractor-PTOs. (Death at 540-revs-per-minute... turns a bony-human into a wrapped-meat-ribbon in less than a minute, ISYN.) This was a crush-death, so it was likely due to the grain-truck that accompanies a combine, not the combine itself. FWIW, of course. |

the bed of the truck fell the hydraulics lifts (rams) pressure wasn't great enough to hold up the bed, they must have turned the pressure nut on the ram releasing the pressure. |

Re: Farmers Crushed to Death While Cleaning a Combine Harvester
"Machine entaglements" happen about one-per-year around here. I was a city-boy who moved here and bought a big-ass row-crop tractor. My brother, who owned several already, told me, "If you get out of that seat, shut off the PTO. Every time. Every time." My 1968 JD 4020 Diesel is a great tractor, even though she has 540-rpm and 720-rpm "moods". But her PTO cares not if it's bending hay, bending trees, or rending flesh. I call her "Ma Green" and she will both pull 30' trees from the ground, taproot and all... ... but she'll also mutilate me in seconds if I don't give her continual respect. Talk about "Beauty and the Beast". |
