Famous Venezuelan Gangster "El Picure" Dies from Lead Poisoning
José Antonio Tovar Colina was his full name. There might be more out there. I'm kinda in a rush and just ripping this off of a single source. So contributions welcome.  Here is the story. This guy was the leader of one of the top gangs in Venezuela. They are apparently strong enough to mount raids on the local police forces and military. Although in this case the attack was not successful.  He and roughly 50 of his groupies attacked a joint police/military compound on, Monday the third of May, and got smacked down. After losing their commander they went on and attacked another police headquarters and the battle is still ongoing a day after "picure" died. "El Picure" means "the fugitive" or "the agouti" which is a type of rodent. Both seem apt for this fella. The group mug shots of dead people are his buddies who died with him. The solo shots are "El picure" and he's the one on the left in the live picture with 3 dudes in it. The weapons are what they found on the bodies and the picture of the cars and police are popaganda pics from the "operation to kill/capture" as they are calling it. I guess that sounds better than, "Hey we accidentally killed the most wanted fugitive in our country because he was attacking us."  ·  ·  ·  ·  ·  ·  ·  · |

Update: I've done a bit more reading and apparently the reason the gang attacked the police was to extract vengeance for the death of El picure's brother and his family (wife + child + her father) a week before. Sometimes it can be hard to tell who the bad guys are. |
