Failed Suicide Bombing Outside Quetta, Bomber the Only Casualty, November 2011
A suicide bomber's explosives detonated prematurely on the outskirts of Quetta, Pakistan, on November 5, 2011, killing only the bomber. Quetta police said the man had been heading for a Shia-populated area of Hazara Town, reportedly to attack a mosque there, when the device went off. No one else was hurt, and no group claimed the attempt. The failed bombing came during a surge of sectarian attacks on Quetta's Shia Hazara community that year, including an Eid morning bombing in August that killed 13 people and the massacre of 26 bus passengers at Mastung in September. The photos are wire agency images of residents gathering around the bomber's body. |
