Failed IED and Dead Iraqis
Here’s what a local grunt unit had to clean up after a terrorist cell had a mishap trying to plant a roadside bomb. The dead guys in the photographs evidently tried to hook up quite a few pounds of HME (homemade explosive) to an IED (improvised explosive device) that was charged by a car battery but while they were rigging it up, something went wrong and they all ended up with a one-way ticket straight to Allah. Out in the Sandbox we don’t have special services to clean up such messes so it’s up to unlucky fuckers like us to do it. It’s ironically called a “working party” and it’s basically Marines of low ranks (Private to Lance Corporal) who have to do some random shit detail job that no rank Corporal would ever do. It’s often cleaning up bits of hadjjis like this after the scene has been investigated. Funny, I really don’t feel any pity seeing these guys have their guts strewn about. Some of my civilian friends back home are disgusted by these photos and are baffled by my indifference (is it indifference? Maybe hatred would be a better word). These motherfuckers tried to kill me and they don’t even know me. Why should I feel sorry for them? I don’t think about what got them to this point in their lives because I couldn’t care less. They are the reason why I would come home in a flag draped box. They are the reason why I would come home missing an arm and a leg. They are the reason why Marines in my platoon can’t go home to their wives, to their children, to their mothers and fathers. So fuck ‘em. ~An American Marine |
