I think it could be a gun shot. The hood may have been pulled up later & most of the damage could be in the back. It was shot from distance as far as I can tell. The injury looks substantial to me.

Looks like he got into an earlier physical altercation, and got the shit knocked out of him. After the wound stopped bleeding, he cleaned himself, put on his hoodie, and then someone shot him.
