Also speaking of narrow throats, my younger brother had the same problem, and when he went in for surgery to correct it, they didn't give him enough anasthesia to knock him out, just enough to paralyze him, so he went through the surgery fully concious. When they finished, the doctors were wrapping up, and he finally tried to sit up and ask them if they were finally through with the surgery, and they all about had heart attacks. They were very apologetic, and took care of his pain right then. He never sued them, because he was too nice of a guy. But I can testify that that is NOT an urban legend, or a horror movie. It DOES happen, and it happened to him. My mom was a nurse, and she was livid at the doctors and aneshesiologist. (My aunt was a nursing instructor at Marquette University. and she was pretty irate about it as well) (They both could chew ass pretty well, and according to my brother, who was just sitting there rather dazed, they unloaded both barrels on the doctors one after the other. )

amazing though your brother's pain tolerance maybe, but i bet he would cringe and twinge even just a bit during the operation. Those are not so excellent doctors if they did not feel it and just let your brother endure the pain.

The medication completely paralyzes you, so you don't twitch or anything. They're supposed to have monitor hooked up to that shows brain activity(I think) or something and it shows if you're responsive or not.(you're not supposed to be).
Doctors don't always use the monitors and these horror stories happen. You feel EVERYTHING. How awful.
