Is anyone familiar with "The Ice Man?" He was a hit man for the mob many years ago and one of the ways he liked to kill someone was to tie them to a stake in a cave out in the hills. The cave was full of large hungry rats. He would tie the poor guy up and then set a video camera up to film the whole thing. He would leave and come back in a couple of days to find the guy completely gone. Then he would watch the video of the rats eating the guy. He said it was pretty gruesome to see the rats eat a guy and it took quite a while for the poor guy to die. I just could not imagine a worse way to die.
