Drug Faction War in Rio de Janeiro, September 2017 (Graphic Images)
During late September 2017, material circulated on Brazilian WhatsApp amid a faction war that returned Rio de Janeiro to military occupation. The conflict started on September 17, 2017, in the Rocinha favela, after imprisoned Amigos dos Amigos leader Antonio Francisco Bonfim Lopes, known as Nem da Rocinha, sent roughly a hundred gunmen to attack Rogerio Avelino da Silva, 'Rogerio 157', his former second-in-command who had assumed control of the favela's drug trade. Following nearly a week of gun battles, the government sent a 980-strong army battalion on September 22, and the National Force later followed. At least 20 people, mainly gang members but also bystanders, died in the conflict. Rogerio 157 was arrested in December 2017. Might I suggest, they simply LEGALIZE all drugs. No I didn't stutter, I'm not for drugs, and don't promote them, even for "casual use".
