A 40-year-old woman, Yuri E.Z.P., was found dead inside a friend's house with facial wounds caused by a machete. Her ex-partner, Amaury A., was identified as the primary suspect. It is thought Amaury, who had been separated from Yuri for seven months, followed Yuri into her friend's house, before surprising her.

Two days later, Amaury was found dead in a hotel in Puerto Plata, having apparently committed suicide by ingesting a toxic substance.
