Dominican Girl Suicide
20 year old Dominican girl allegedly hung herself yesterday morning. She'd had a loud fight with her boyfriend the night before. Of course, her family is screaming at the press and the police that she was murdered and the scene staged, because "she was found hanging in a seated position, which is impossible!" I swear, it must be a pain in the ass to try to work law enforcement at suicide scenes when dealing with these families who think that the only way to hang yourself is forty feet in the air. They never want to believe their loved one killed themselves, so they all become armchair detectives who have never opened a forensics textbook. It is being 'investigated', but probably without much cause. Partial suspension hanging, tongue swollen and protruding, puddle of urine on the floor directly under the body...and that's all just at a moment's glance. Death by DUI is my most-hated form of death by misadventure, but suicide is a close second.  You can't see the knot here, but unless it was a reasonably-crafted multi-turn noose, she could've stood up and taken it off. That's why I would immediately assume suicide; she was just committed. If she had a properly-tied noose, she might not have been able to get it loose if she waited until the last seconds before blacking out. Nooses are designed to be difficult to loosen once they tighten. |
