In a forest in Distrito Nacional, Dominican Republic, the corpse of criminal V.H.G.V. was found in a forest by a cattle ranch farmer, in an advanced state of decomposition. A gunshot wound was found on his head. According to his wife, V. had been kidnapped on the 9th December.

V. was the alleged mastermind of the shooting of baseball legend David Ortiz in a bar in Santo Domingo in June 2019. Reportedly, V., a known associate of a Mexican drug cartel, had called for the murder of his cousin, a regular patron of the bar. However, the shooter supposedly misidentified Ortiz as the cousin, and shot him, which necessitated the removal of his gallbladder and parts of his intestine and colon.

However, a private investigator hired by Ortiz claimed that Ortiz was the intended target, and that a drug kingpin had ordered his death as he felt Ortiz had disrespected him. Thirteen people were charged for the shooting, but V. was among the three who were exonerated in December 2022 due to insufficient evidence.
