You're generally fucked either way. Yeah, poisonings and stranglings will usually spare you the geysers of blood on the walls, but you more than make up for it with other mess. Stranglings are notorious for pissing and shitting and poisoning usually has one or both of those and throws copious vomiting into the mix, depending on the substance ingested.

As a general rule, I'd suggest using plastic tarps for any nefarious purposes...though it probably isn't the first thought most have during a 'crime of passion' as is likely depicted here.
