Apparently they watch a lot of American TV programs. Usually in those shows, the characters point to something at the crime scene to guide the police photographer (and the audience) to the evidence. The rescuers misunderstand this as "Westerners point to the evidence in crime photos" and they showcase this misinterpretation in these pointing photos.

It’s a part of their religion…they are volunteers and this is evidence that they have been helping the dead and allows them to satisfy god that they are worthy
