Well, it really fucks up the engineer mentally. Even though he knows it wasn't his fault and there was no way to stop in time, he still killed someone. If you're going to kill yourself, find a way to do it by yourself, preferably so that the body won't be found so no one has to clean up your mess.

This happened to me in December 2003. A guy committed suicide in front of my train. When I got down to look at him his head was clean off but the rest of his body was surprisingly intact. The depot called me and the driver a taxi and I learnt later that they found his head wedged under the trains running gear a couple of days later.
