I take it the guy with his head ripped off must have dropped himself from high enough that it ripped his head off, it happens if the hanging is not done just right. Too little drop and you choke to death, too much and it's off with the head.

The sternocleidomastiod muscle (sterno-cleido-mastoid) is the one in the neck that runs diagonally from the sternum to the skull. It's the diagonal one you see when you turn your head. The insertion of the muscle is the part that attaches to something. So you were right. That basically just said "There's blood over here."  |
