Deaths In Libya
Dead bodies lay outside the hospital in the Abu Salim district in Tripoli, Libya, Friday, Aug. 26, 2011. The four-story hospital was completely empty with shattered glass over the floors, dark with dried blood stains and with medical equipment strewn about. In the hospital yard next to the parking lot is a pile of 20 decomposing bodies, all of them darker skinned than most Libyans, covered with blankets. Gadhafi had recruited fighters from sub-Saharan Africa. August 25, 2011, Tripoli, Libya: Libyan rebels push forward their Tripoli offensive, attacking Qaddafi snipers in the Abu Salim neighborhood. Fierce fighting leads to casualties on both sides. US President Barack Obama called on 22 August 2011 for ‘an inclusive transition that leads to a democratic Libya,’ after the fall of most of the capital Tripoli to rebels seeking to oust leader Muammar Gaddafi. ‘The situation is still very fluid. There remains a degree of uncertainty, and there are still regime elements who pose a threat,’ Obama said. ‘But this much is clear: The Gaddafi regime is coming to an end, and the future of Libya is in the hands of its people.’ |
