Originally designed for marking and signalling (WP is a very brilliant white cloud) WP grenades were used also quite extensively for bunkers, the main reason is that once it detonates inside the bunker the burning phos does 2 things: Eats up all the available oxygen thereby suffocating anyone inside - and anyone who does not suffocate will probably incapacitated by blinding and respiratory problems, not to mention if they received a direct hit from the spraying phos. As mentioned, troops were hesitant to use it on open ground, especially if the wind was blowing towards you. |
