In 1998, the corpse of a 35-year-old man who died in a grenade explosion was admitted for examination. The operational-search activities led to the establishment of the following circumstances of the case: At a meeting of two rival criminal groups to settle disputed points (on the “arrow”), a young man who was a member of one of them, demonstratively took out a grenade from his jacket pocket several times. Thus, he tried to intimidate his opponents. Once again, after lowering the grenade into his pocket, an explosion occurred, as a result of which no one, except for the deceased, was injured.
According to investigative data, with careless handling of the grenade, the check was released, the drummer of the fuse broke the primer, after which there was an explosion of the grenade, which was in the left side pocket of the jacket. Death occurred at the scene. A forensic study showed that the lesions were located mainly on the left lateral surface of the trunk and left arm.
The explosion led to a gross destruction of the left abdominal wall with the loss of part of the intestinal loops and the greater omentum. On the clothes, there were multiple tears in the fabric, smoky edges and scorching, which captured not only all layers of clothing (T-shirt, shirt, sweater, thick winter jacket) on the torso and inner surface of the left arm, but also trousers.
On the left lateral surface of the body, there was an extensive defect in the skin and the abdominal wall itself. Numerous skin tears were visible along the edges of the defect. On the left hand, thermal and mechanical injuries were determined on the anterior surface of the shoulder and the inner surface of the forearm. The head, neck, and right half of the body were practically intact.
An autopsy revealed fragments of a pomegranate in the form of an indefinite shape of black foreign bodies of metallic density, located mainly in the region of the mesentery root.
The liver was virtually intact. The left kidney with adrenal gland and spleen were absent. In the left lung, a large number of rib fragments were observed, which, like secondary projectiles, led to numerous wound channels in the lung tissue. Ethanol was found in the blood of the corpse at a concentration of 2.3 ppm.
