Prison guard Dayana Vargas Carbo, 31, was shot in the head yesterday by attackers on a motorcycle while she was standing near a sports field opposite the El Rodeo Prison, Portoviejo, Manabí Province, in Ecuador. A second prison guard who was with her at the time of the attack managed to escape unharmed. Cops recovered a motorcycle, a helmet, and clothing nearby, which are believed to belong to the perps. This murder is part of a spike in violence against prison staff in the region as two other guards, Cristian Fabián Vaca Toaqui and Michael Efrén Andrade Marcillo, were also killed in the Manabí province earlier in April 2026. |
