Re: Dead SCUBA Divers

"if anything goes wrong while scubadiving, you will die".
It doesn't have to be that way. Assuming you receive good training...you train for all the possible contingencies.

Re: Dead SCUBA Divers

I've read drowning is peaceful, but does anyone know if this scuba diving death would have been painful at all?
It all depends. If you go deep enough, 120' and deeper, you start to experience nitrogen narcosis, which is the nitrogen in your blood reacting to the pressure and behaving as a narcotic. That could be peaceful.

But if you have a barotrauma (rapidly changing pressure injury), like holding you breath while ascending to fast, your lungs could actually explode...which is probably quite painful.

Re: Dead SCUBA Divers

...But when it comes to scuba, would you just run out of air, and not really know it?
No, you know when you're running out of air on SCUBA. It becomes harder to draw from the mouthpiece. But if you are properly trained, you are monitoring your air gauge and know to start your return from the dive before you reach 500 psi in your tank. If you have equipment malfunction, again you are trained to buddy breath with your dive partner. I'll bet every single one of the deaths in this thread is attributable to poor training.

Re: Dead SCUBA Divers

I wonder if they got lost in the caves when their air gradually ran out? Such a horrible way to go, panicking that you knew you were going to drown in the dark unless you could find a way out, gulping more and more air as the chilling fear set in.

That would make for a pretty gnarly Halloween mask.

Re: Dead SCUBA Divers

The first 2 are from Dahab, Blue Hole bottom which is more than 100m

The last one is from Tina Watson who was allegedly murdered by drowning during a dive trip

Any more back story from the first two images?
