Based on my experiences with some members of the criminal element here in the US, most live day-to-day with no real expectations for the future. They try to make a living doing whatever they have to do, with incredibly little to no remorse for their actions. Same applies to friends/family who become collateral damage. Their attitude towards death is generally not one of fear, but more of whatever happens happens, and they have no qualms about killing you or someone else before you or that other person get the chance to kill them.
