Damn it, sick of hearing about seat belts. It's not a one-size-fits-all panacea; it depends upon the dynamics of the particular accident, which by definition is out of control. I've been to plenty of accidents where victims were killed wearing their belts. About the best one can hope for is that, if one is in an accident, its characteristics permit the belt to come into play and save one's life, so of course always put one on. But it's no guarantee.
