Re: Crushed By Crane
This is very similar to an accident that happened on a job site I was on a few years back. When a crane's boom is assembled or disassembled the operator stays at the controls and lifts or lowers the boom while his "oiler" inserts or knocks out the pins coupling each boom section together. The oiler is to never put himself under the boom as he removes pins. When a pin is removed the boom becomes unstable, thus the reason the operator stays at the controls to help stabilize and control the weight of the boom. In the fatal accident on our job site the operator chose to step away from the controls and do this operation alone. He removed a pin while underneath and the boom collapsed on him. In the photos you can see the pin and sledge lying on the ground next to him. Everytime you see a crane on a construction site know that men were in this same dangerous situation. Follow all safety rules and this accident can be avoided. |

Re: Crushed By Crane
His head appears intact, so what is that red lump sitting on the ground several feet away from his body? It almost looks like a heart. Considering the position in which he is laying how did his heart pop out of his chest and fly that far when his chest is toward the ground? That's so weird.
