32 year old crime reporter (I have translated several of her stories for you guys here over the past year or two) was abducted yesterday afternoon from the home she shared with her aunt and her two children.

Six men dressed in tactical fatigues, masks, and carrying a mix of semi- and fully-automatic rifles broke the door in and demanded she accompany them. She and her aunt pleaded with them, as she had borne a baby barely two weeks earlier...but they refused to be moved by the begging and took her anyway.

The aunt called the local authorities who allegedly initiated a search operation, but it was to no avail. Her body was discovered this afternoon on the side of the road in the next state over . Her wrists were tied, her pants were pulled down around her ankles, and she had been slowly suffocated to death by a plastic bag that was still tied around her face. No sexual assault was mentioned, but the reports did say she had been painfully tortured prior to death.

She worked for a prominent newspaper in Veracruz up until 8 months ago, when she was fired because she was seen driving a brand new truck that was miles above her paygrade. Her boss assumed that she was taking payoffs from a cartel and sent her packing. She has since worked on the crime beat as a freelance journalist, reporting for multiple different papers. It is not currently known if her death was tied to her legit work as a reporter, the possibility of her illegitimate payoffs from a criminal syndicate, both, or neither.

Don't believe so. It's pretty big news (always is when a journalist gets clipped by sicarios) so there are dozens and dozens of papers covering the story and none have mentioned a husband yet, as near as I can tell.

It's possible. But entirely speculative. No one is likely to dig too hard to confirm at this point.
