Couple Shot Dead on Rua Antonio Balbino in Salvador, Bahia, 2014
A man and a woman were killed by gunfire during the early hours of Thursday, October 30, 2014, near a creche on Rua Antonio Balbino in Brongo, part of the IAPI neighborhood in Salvador, Bahia, Brazil. In a mobile phone recording of the killings, the two victims are seen surrendering and begging for their lives before gunmen shoot them multiple times. More armed men subsequently arrive and fire further rounds. The recording was forwarded to police, who then went to the scene. Reporting did not substantiate a claim that local residents contacted police after hearing the disturbance. Bahia's homicide division used the footage to begin an investigation. At the time of reporting, police had not determined the identities of either victim, and no motive was established. The road was incorrectly given as Rua Antonio Balbinus; its proper name is Rua Antonio Balbino, honoring a former governor of Bahia. |
