CODECA Activist Carina Ivone Mazariegos Aroche Found Dead in Guatemala, 2019
Carina Ivone Mazariegos Aroche, 32, disappeared in San Andrés Villa Seca, Guatemala, on March 19, 2019. She had worked for about nine years as an auxiliary nurse at a health post in the La Máquina area and also sold children's clothing. Her husband reported her disappearance to the Public Ministry's women's office in Retalhuleu two days later, prompting an Alerta Isabel-Claudina. Mazariegos Aroche was a CODECA activist involved in the organization's women's network and community communications team. She was also the daughter-in-law of a local MLP mayoral candidate. Her remains were found in standing water in April 2019.
