CJNG and CSRL Dump Dismembered Bodies With Narco-Banners, Celaya, 2021
Between about 4:35 and 6:40 am on March 31, 2021, police recorded 911 reports of dismembered human remains at several sites across Celaya, Guanajuato, Mexico. Black plastic bags containing body parts and severed heads were deposited at as many as six busy locations, including four confirmed by the state prosecutor's office, with narco-banners at each site. The same morning brought competing messages: Santa Rosa de Lima cartel member 'M1' said the dead were CJNG elite gunmen, while CJNG's Grupo Elite, in a message directed at a state police inspector, said they were Santa Rosa informants. Press reported that the remains of two people, a man and a woman, were discovered at turnoffs along the Celaya-Salvatierra road; neither was ever publicly identified. The messages formed part of the conflict between CJNG and the Santa Rosa de Lima cartel after the August 2020 arrest of Santa Rosa founder Jose Antonio Yepez Ortiz, 'El Marro'.  ·  ·  ·  ·  ·  ·  · |
