usually when the person doesnt know how to swim and what she started a slow water treading in shallow part ended up being in the deeper end with no one to pull her back to safety. hence there are people hired as lifeguards

Lots of reasons adults drown in pools: intoxication, preexisting health problem, seizure, stroke, embolism...
