Chicken Laden Lorry Overturns
Happened 21st September 2011 A mother and daughter escaped death when a lorry carrying thousands of chickens overturned onto their car. The daughter, who was driving, lay across her mother in the passenger seat to protect her as their Peugeot 107 was squashed to half its size. They then both stayed as flat as possible to avoid being crushed until rescue workers arrived to free them. Traffic cop Sgt Quigley said it was one of the most amazing escapes from a crash he had seen during his 16 years policing the roads. The hatchback was squashed to the size of an egg carton The mother and daughter were from York, UK, and were taken to hospital to be treated for cuts, bruises and shock, as was the driver of the lorry. Dead and dying chickens lie on the road The car was on the inside lane when the lorry toppled sideways on to it. The road was strewn with dead and dying birds and RSPCA officers were called to the scene to deal with them. It is unknown if any hens survived as the RSPCA couldn't remember a bloody thing |
