Not enough damage for a shotgun...kind of difficult to analyze without more inspection. From the pictures provided I would guess a small caliber weapon or blunt force to the back of the head.

I can't tell what he cause of death is. A shot in the mouth could leave the face intact and blow out the back of the skull. It looks like stippling on the face but the body has been dead awhile so it could be dried blood, look how opaque the eyes are.

I know this picture, it was a suicide, she put the gun in her mouth. That is gunshot residue on her tongue. The bullet came out the back top part of her head. GSR came out of her nose along with the blood as well.
