you are a dummy. the island is a very rich one that's why america and other countries didn't release their hold on it. in one way or the other they made sure philippines gets indebted to their country so they can do much what they want in the philippines. rich natural resources, rich mining resources, including oil, tough guerilla warriors, nice hospitality when you meet the right people. most of the resources foreign countries have found ways to control. only the government dont do anything to make the people get their share of prosperity. the govt would rather make deals with foreignes and pocket all the profits for themselves. politicians past and present have the habit of who ever makes the deals pockets the profitsfor themselves.
