Sometimes the helmet isn't enough.

Young couple (23 and 22) were traveling southbound on a semi-rural road on the fella's bike when he apparently hit a hole that was filled with loose gravel and pout the bike down.

Bike is scuffed but not seriously hammered, dude was stunned and suffered minor injuries.

The girl, who was wearing a helmet, was killed at the scene due to head trauma. You can vaguely see in one of the images that her helmet is heavily cracked.

Some people who lived nearby helped the guy and moved the girl out of the road and brought them inside to wait for the ambulance, but the girl was dead by the time they arrived and the report suspected that she was already dead from the impact before being moved indoors.

Reckon that periodically, the ol' Grim Reaper just has zero fucks to give for your helmets.

Maybe a'body should wear the helmet brand (Bell Helmets I believe) that Evel Knievel wore? He seemed to survive the worst of crashes. He was a tough auld bugger though.

Some of these cheaper composite plastic helmets are pish. The best ones used to be fibre glass. Don't know if that sill stands? Been out of the biking lark for a few years now...

From personal experience, a helmet will protect your head but does shit for protecting your neck. When I crashed on my bicycle my helmet had a fist sized dent in the side where I hit. No brain damage (well friends will debate that point ) but I broke my neck. Though I cannot tell from the photos, if she landed just right the impact may have snapped her neck equaling instant death.

I'm pretty sure that just with the application of kinetic force alone, every helmet ever made will eventually become ineffective under a certain level of stress, that concussive energy has to go somewhere and unless it's handily made of some sci-fi type stuff like vibranium then it's going straight into the noggin of the unfortunate soul who's wearing it. Helmet or not, smack it hard enough, you're doomed.

Maybe she had an accident with this helmet some time ago. With the interior foam being crushed and thinned, it cracked like a nut.
