Cambodia - New Mother Passes Away from COVID
Phnom Penh (Cambodia) 32 year old M.M. was heavily pregnant, but unfortunately, she had contracted COVID. Doctors decided it best to get the baby out as soon as possible + on 15th May 2021, her baby boy came into the world. 'M's husband struggled to enjoy what should be one of the happiest days of his life. He fought back tears of sadness as he watched his wife struggling to breathe, despite being on a ventilator. 'M' didn't get to enjoy being a new mother; she spent the first week of her baby's life, clinging onto her own life. She passed away on the 22nd.

Did she not get the vaccine? The last I recall they were giving it in masses in Cambodia. At least from my contacts over there.

Re: Cambodia - New Mother Passes Away from COVID
This was one of the saddest videos I’ve watched on here; that poor woman looks so terrified and out of it, probably from lack of oxygen. So horrible that she just gave birth to a baby and knows she’s going to die. And even though I don’t understand what the husband was saying just his tone alone was enough to make me feel his pain and anguish. Rest In Peace, dear lady and I hope having a new baby to take care of will help heal the poor husbands broken heart.

Re: Cambodia - New Mother Passes Away from COVID
This is a sad case. I read that the entire family/relatives of this woman suffered from covid and when you're pregnant: pregnancy increases the risk for severe illness and death with COVID-19. Pregnant women who have COVID-19 appear more likely to develop respiratory complications requiring intensive care than women who aren't pregnant, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Pregnant women are also more likely to be placed on a ventilator. Further:In addition, pregnant women who are Black or Hispanic appear to be disproportionately affected by infection with the COVID-19 virus. Pregnant women who have underlying medical conditions, such as diabetes, also might be at even higher risk of severe illness due to COVID-19. Some research suggests that pregnant women with COVID-19 are also more likely to have a premature birth and cesarean delivery, and their babies are more likely to be admitted to a neonatal unit. COVID-19 vaccines are effective. However, a small percentage of people who are fully vaccinated will still get COVID-19 if they are exposed to the virus that causes it, according to the CDC. These infections are defined as “vaccine breakthrough cases.” That means that 0.00001% of fully vaccinated people can die after they get covid and i bet the rates are much higher in people that were not fully vaccinated.
Vaccine breakthrough cases only occur in a small percentage of vaccinated people. And public health officials say that these cases actually reinforce the effectiveness of the vaccines, unlike the post suggests. As of May 4, more than 105 million people in the United States have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19, according to the CDC. During this same time, the CDC received 9,245 reports of vaccine breakthrough infections. That’s less than .01% of fully vaccinated Americans. Breakthrough infections have resulted in 835 hospitalizations and 132 deaths, according to the latest figures from CDC. The CDC’s website notes that 20 of the 132 fatal cases were “reported as asymptomatic or not related to COVID-19.” That means that less than 1% of these breakthrough infections resulted in the patient dying because of COVID-19 related illness. |
