Probably because the body is starting to smell in the heat. I knew someone who worked for a while as a CSI in training and when she was assisting at crime scenes, she always wore masks with a few drops of eucalyptus oil on it so she was breathing in the smell of that rather than decay, urine, feces etc. Her boss used to get mad at her because he said that the smell of eucalyptus could mask evidenciary smells like gunpowder, bleach, chemicals, etc that might make the difference between someone getting away with murder or not. Not surprising she ended up leaving to become a nurse - she said seeing so many dead bodies - especially of accident and abuse victims - made her want to help people live. |
