Around 2pm in the afternoon of June 3, 2021, traffic was jammed along E2 Expressway (South Luzon Expressway), when Police chase a van carrying armed kidnapping suspects after their license plate was tracked entering the highway.

Police received a report of a Chinese person "kidnapped" in Parañaque, Metro Manila using a Hiace van. The van was spotted entering the expressway, allowing the Police, Highway Patrol, and expressway personnel to track and chase the van as they sped through cars.

Upon reaching Cabuyao, Laguna province (40km South of Manila), suspects noticed they are being chased and opened fire on patrol cars. Police retaliate by raining the van with bullets until it stopped, and the standoff continued until police confirmed the deaths of two individuals. Recovered in the scene are firearms, hard cash amounting to 1,200,000 Philippine Pesos (~~$25,000) and identification cards.

Due to the incident, frightened motorists were forced to stop, and traffic choked along the busy expressway connecting Manila to the Southern provinces. As of the evening, one lane has been opened Southbound while a temporary lane on the opposing direction was used for Southbound motorists to continue traffic flow.

It was an "alleged" kidnapping though, but the dead suspects were actually known as "kilabot", or notorious. They have been terrorizing the Chinese working here for years, extorting and leaving them with nothing, and sometimes killing them.
