What personal gain? Iran swore to destroy the US (not the other way around), held civilians hostage, and were cozying up to the Soviets, who were also seeking to destroy the US. So what "personal gain" are you talking about?

It's all about Personal gain, cozying up to, swinging dicks, and fucking over, one way or another it's all THREATENING, TAKING SIDES, THEN FUCKING THEM OVER! We all make these " Peace treaties " and come to common grounds, but you better believe that it's every fucking country for itself including the US, who will whisper all the sweet nothings and empty promises to these countries, but will fuck them up and over if they look cross eyed. Iran had lost 12,000 troops, while Iraq had lost 2,000. Iran claimed Iraq's defenses benefited from US supplied intelligence which provided details of Iranian plans and preparations, thus permitting Iraq to coordinate an effective defense as precise points where the attack occurred."

Only mention is the US aiding the Iraqis in their air and artillery defense co-ordination via satellite imagery, intelligence, etc. Saddam was the buddy of the US at the time and that's where the American support went.

The Iranians were not, as far as I know, supported by the States in any way - which is probably why they lost the war (along with the sheer ineptness of their own military commanders who failed to backup advances with air or artillery strikes).

Tehran was not anywhere on the list of American favorites to side with and I suppose that the US felt it had to side with one of them and Saddam was likely deemed to have been far less radical...well, until the US took him out several years later.
