If this happened in Thailand, then I have one theory as to why we see a lot of motorcycle injuries from there, especially when they involve trucks. When I was over there a few years ago, I used to always see people on scooters and motorcycles riding in between larger vehicles in heavy traffic. I surmise there are other bad driving habits as well, but this was the one that got my attention. If you were driving in heavy traffic, changing lanes had to be done with extreme caution.

i hate to disagree on that. It is actually the one of the most safest, economical and leisurely mode of transport for most. it's the discipline that gives motorcycles the bad name. motorcycles are small enough to swerve to a tiny street to avoid everything on emergencies where a four-wheeled vehicle can not avoid. it's the bad attitude and bad discipline that does them in.
