How in the hell does this happen? Especially when it happens in nature's equivalent of a swimming pool.
Swimming pools have air constantly pumped into them to give you sort of lift and buoyancy. The salt levels of the sea can cause the same effect.

Fresh water has no air, minimal salt and if you start to tire, you begin to lose your buoyancy and will keep going underwater. Eventually you will fatigue so much, you drown

What have you been smoking???

They don't pump air into swimming pools. And if they did it would make you SINK not float, as it lighter than you are.

You float better in salt water because it is heavier than fresh water.
